Paving, Patios and Floors

Our craftsmen at Saxum Stonemasons can design and build bespoke stone patios, floors, verandas or staircases. We specialise in working with natural stone which can incorporate hand cut letters, cobble setts, carvings, and mouldings.

We also design stone features to be wall mounted such as relief carvings, house names and pet memorials.

All of our projects are one off so we are delighted to discuss your ideas and produce scale drawings before commencing a project. A hand crafted floor or patio is a fantastic opportunity to make a feature out of an outdoor space, a kitchen or bathroom or an outbuilding. Stone is ordered specifically for each project allowing for a wide choice of materials including limestone, slate, sandstone, marble or granite.

Sandstone paving

For older buildings we create sympathetic paving utilising any flagstones which may be present. The incorporation of stone carvings, cobble sets and a range of sizes of tumbled sandstone tiles can be used to create a unique and beautiful outdoor space.

I have known Jamie over several years and during that time he has done a variety of work for us but, when we bought our period cottage in East Sussex and the house and garden needed completely renovating we had no hesitation in asking Jamie to do the stone masonry work for us inside and out. We had ideas of how we wanted the back terrace and the pergola base to look and with Jamie’s input the finished result was even better than we expected. We had so many friends and other trades people particularly comment on the Indian Sandstone slabs with pebble infills which Jamie suggested we use to replace a very tired back garden terrace. The compass rose motif with grapevine centre under the pergola was very crisp and skilfully installed, Jamie always pays attention to detail which gives a professional finish to the work. Jamie built the pergola for us too, a gifted professional. After the new kitchen was installed Jamie made a bespoke granite windowsill for the room, it complemented the new arrangement. I have no hesitation in recommending his work.
